Web App of the Week – Dixons Cottingley Academy
Web App of the Week is an award for outstanding users of Accessit Library. It’s a place to recognise nice-looking, useful user interfaces and is somewhere to turn to for inspiration.
This week we have Jane Reid’s Web App from Dixons Cottingley Academy which showcases her interactive and engaging catalogue made possible by her technical skills which she has mastered through joining our Accessit webinars.
Jane has been a Librarian at Dixons Cottingley Academy for 4 years; surviving 2 trusts, 3 head teachers and the COVID-19 closure.
Her library is in the centre of her school overlooked from classrooms surrounding it. She organises her library by genre to assist with students finding the types of books they enjoy. Her library is set up with primarily mobile shelving so can be flexible in how it is arranged. Her walls are spotted with pieces from their arts department showcasing her student’s talent.
Dixons Cottingley Academy has been using Accessit for almost 3 years and Jane loves how the Web App has supported the academic outcome of her students through its various search features; Visual Search, Keywords Search and One Search.
Visual search allows students to search within the web app using visual images. Accessit provides you with a set of Visual Search categories and images but this is easily customisable from within the Management App. Categories and images can be added for course subjects and classes by using photos or images relevant to your students and school.
Another brilliant search tool is One Search. This allows students to search multiple safe and trusted sources with one click. It searches multiple online content providers chosen by Jane to provide the most trustworthy results. By opening several tabs at once, One Search ensures that borrowers have access to the most useful and relevant information in a manageable form.
The face of these search features is the Web App.
While she loves how easily customisable features are on the Web App Jane has enjoyed becoming a more experienced and knowledgeable user through joining our Acccessit webinars.
Not only has the knowledge Jane has acquired from the webinars helped make her Web App an interactive and engaging platform for her students, but she feels confident when issues arise she can contact our support team.
Accessit Library is truly a whole school resource that enhances digital classrooms, allows parents to make book choices with their children and provides multitudes of reporting options to demonstrate reading progress to the SLT and OFSTED.
